Saudi Arabia's domestic agricultural production operates under water-scarce conditions with heavy reliance on protected horticulture, greenhouse production, and irrigated date palm farming. Specialty and water-soluble fertilizers for drip-irrigated vegetables, dates, and fruits are the primary import categories. NPK blends for greenhouse and protected crop production, water-soluble NPK (19-19-19 and custom grades), MAP, and MOP are the commercially active import grades. Saudi Arabia is itself a major urea and DAP producer through SABIC and Ma'aden, so these are generally not import categories.

Saudi Arabia is both a major producer and a selective importer of fertilizers. Domestic production of urea, DAP, and AN by SABIC and Ma'aden satisfies much of the local market for these products. However, the country imports specialty fertilizers, water-soluble grades, and certain NPK formulations not produced domestically. The Vision 2030 agricultural modernisation programme has increased investment in greenhouse and protected horticulture, driving growing demand for high-end fertigation-grade products. Riyadh and the Eastern Province are the primary agricultural demand centres.
