Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia's largest fertilizer consumers, driven by rice (the dominant crop — two to three crops per year in the Mekong Delta), coffee (in the Central Highlands), rubber, pepper, cashew, and an expanding vegetable and fruit sector. Urea is the leading nitrogen source for paddy rice. NPK blends (16-16-16, 20-10-10) are used extensively in rice and vegetable production. DAP is imported for basal application. Potash (MOP) is used in coffee, rubber, and high-value crops. Specialty water-soluble fertilizers are growing for vegetables and greenhouse production.

Vietnam's fertilizer market is among the most dynamic in Southeast Asia, shaped by intensive rice double- and triple-cropping in the Mekong Delta, large coffee estates in the Central Highlands, and a rapidly growing export-oriented vegetable sector. The country has domestic urea production but imports significant volumes of NPK blends, DAP, and potash. Fertilizer distribution is handled by a mix of large state-linked trading companies and private distributors. Demand seasonality tracks the rice-growing calendar with peaks before the winter-spring and summer-autumn crops.
